My Bike Trip Across America

Quick Bike Ride Update from Ann (send web feedback to i_saw_bill@yahoo.com):

8/28/00 Monday

They made it! I talked with Bill today and he's in Norfolk, VA with his grandfather. They arrived in DC on August 20th, spent a few days there and rode on to VA. They dipped their wheels in the Atlantic Ocean in Yorktown. After spending time with family, Bill will head back to CO (via train); he should be home by Sept 18. Read about their adventures at High Adventure and check out the new pictures and movies.

From June 2000 thru August 2000, I will be riding my Haluzak Horizon from Anacortes, WA  to Minneapolis, MN, to Chicago, IL, to  Washington D.C.

I obtained maps from adventure cycling.   I connected the Northern Tier and Trans Am routes with part of Great Rivers South to create this adventure.   Exact locations have been tweaked a bit.

My good friend, Ann Pakenham, will be updating this web page, with pictures people e-mail in, and with road reports she gets from me.

Equipment:

Haluzak Horizon - I changed the gearing, with a shimano nexave and shimano megarange cassette.
CycleTote trailer
Hammock, rain fly, 20 degree down sleeping bag , goretex bivy sack
Water filter
Gerber Multitool "always the first tool, never the right one"
Topeak Alien
Stove
spare 20" front tire: Tioga Comp Pool
spare 26" tire for rear or trailer: Continental Avenue Semislick
3 metal tire irons, patch kit, 3 spare tubes for each wheel.
Truegoo (gunk for sealing holes in tires on the roll)
BackPaxe for 'adjusting' trees and acting like a big knife when I need it.
Sony Mavica camera for lousy digital pictures to give friendly people on diskettes
Cheap AST camera
Waterproof bag.
'emergency' blanket (aka: tarp!)
Vietnam era pancho and blanket (what? another tarp; just how big is this trailer anyway?)
